KILLARNEY: HOME TRACK

Killarney International Raceway – The Home of Formula Supercars
Killarney International Raceway has been a cornerstone of South African motorsport since 1947, evolving from a modest drag racing strip into one of the country’s most prestigious racing circuits. Originally built on a disused stretch of road near Malmesbury, it quickly became a hub for motorsport enthusiasts. By 1960, Killarney had been upgraded to meet Formula One international standards, allowing it to host the Cape Grand Prix, where legendary drivers like Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, and Jo Bonnier thrilled crowds of over 10,000 spectators.
Despite financial struggles in the early 1960s, the dedication of local motorsport clubs led to the formation of the Western Province Motor Club (WPMC), which ensured the track’s survival and continued growth. Over the decades, Killarney has undergone numerous expansions, including modern pits, garages, hospitality areas, and spectator stands, transforming it into a world-class motorsport facility.
Today, Killarney International Raceway remains a premier venue for motorsport in South Africa, hosting a variety of racing disciplines while continuing to evolve with the sport. Its fast, technical layout, combined with its rich history and top-tier facilities, makes it the perfect home for Formula Supercars, providing the ultimate stage for high-performance racing.
